Will assist 4-H groups
Farm girls preparing demonstrations for Achievement Day
Gladys Adams, clothing specialist of extension service, will be at the Farm Bureau office Thursday to help the 4-H demonstration teams. These demonstrations will be given Achievement day which is Aug. 12.
The business men of Webster City are cooperating with the 4-H girls’ club and are offering a premium of $10. This pays the expense of the demonstration team to the state fair. This money is not to be given the girls individually. In case they wouldn’t go to the fair it will be given another team to go to the fair.
The girls, who are on the demonstration team and name of demonstration are:
“Testing Fabrics”--Ellen White and Shirley Elliot, Freedom Busy Bees; "4-H Uniform”--Neva Dick ” and Alvina Koolhof, Fremont Farm Fairies; “Cleaning and Removing Stains from Summer Clothing”--Mildred Chapman and Gladys Chapman, Blairsburg Happy Hustlers; “Dress Lines”--Eva Doolittle and Viola Short, Cass Red Peppers' “Alteration of Foundation Pattern”--Bonnnie Knight and Alice Dale Wright, Clear Lake Sailors.
Old Settlers picnic Sunday
Dr. Effie McCollum Jones to speak at 34th Annual Reunion at Bells mill
The thirty-fourth annual old settlers picnic will be held at Bells Mill park Sunday with Dr. Effie McCollum Jones of Webster city giving the afternoon address.
President A.B. Bell will preside over the business meeting and features of the program will be selections by the Little German band of Stanhope, other musical numbers, the election of new officers and short talks by old settlers.
At noon a picnic dinner will be served and a general get together will be enjoyed.
The complete program, starting at 10:45 o'clock is:

Girls set for children's art show
Rhonda Hemmen, 13 and her sister Paula 12, have been getting ready for the children's art show in Webster City this Friday and Saturday. Rhonda and Paula each plan to enter three canvases they have painted while attending classes taught by Mrs. Marian Halliday.
The art show this weekend is open to all youngsters in this area and will offer prizes to the best works entered.
The Hemmen sisters are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Hemmen of this city.

W.C. teacher looks forward to first job with school district in Alaska
Webster City's John Tabor, a recent Iowa State University graduate said his mom was "not too excited" at first about his job plans.
Tabor, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Tabor plans to teach industrial arts in a school district based in Nome, Alaska. The Bering Strait School District covers 80,000 square miles.
"I thought this would be quite an experience, quite a chance," Tabor said.
Tabor said his father told him to "just do what you want." He talked it over with his parents for a few days and both of them are now excited he said.
Most oif his students will be Eskimos. There are around a dozen villages in the district, each with its own school. There is no need for a car, Tabor said. He will be flown to five schools at first, with a week's stay at each.
All Stars will be back on Wednesday
The Al Welsh Dixieland All-Stars who made such a hit with the first band concert of the season last month and again during the July 4th celebration at Brewers Creek park, will be back or another free concert to be given Wednesday evening at 7 o’clock at the band shelter in West Twin Park. The concert, given through the courtesy of the city recreation and parks department, will feature many Dixieland favorites, plus oldtime standards.
Members of the band Wednesday night will include Al Welsh, Webster City, trumpet, Dennis Anderson, Rockwell City, trombone; Reggie Shive, Storm Lake, Clarinet; Ralph Drollinger, Fort Dodge, tuba; Mike Welsh, Webster City, drums; Roger Hanes, Badger, banjo; Bob Marsh, Webster City, banjo; and Dan Muhammad, Milwaukee, banjo.
