Bargfrede earns all-state honor

Delainey Bargfrede put a cap on a strong junior season by making the all-state third team for the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

Bargfrede, who has committed to Western Kentucky University, was also named to the IGCA all-district team recently.

On the year, Bargfrede went 16-7 inside the circle, striking out 178 batters with just 26 walks in 156-plus innings pitched. Opponents hit only .185 off her in 24 starts and 25 appearances.

Bargfrede was also one of the top hitters for the Lynx, batting .337 wth an on-base percentage of .354 and a slugging percentage of .438.

She had 30 hits with six doubles, a home run and 16 RBI.

Bargfrede, who was a unanimous selection to the all-North Central Conference team, recorded her 500th career strikeout earlier this season. She also made the third team last year as a sophomore.

“It feels awesome to have made all-state a second time,” Bargfrede said. “After the first year, I knew it was possible to make it again and knew I had to work to get it.

“It also pushes me to have my best season for my final high school season.”

Bargfrede’s mother, Meredith (Tharp) Bargfrede, was a two-time all-state selection for the Lynx in softball in 1998 and ’99.
