The theater will be showing “Lego Ninjago” in Spanish on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. in an effort to be more inclusive to the diverse local population.

The Webster Theater will be holding a Spanish night at the movies. Patrons are invited to see the new film “Lego Ninjago” on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 9:30 p.m. The film will be played in Spanish. The subtitles will either be Spanish or the voiceover will be in Spanish.

As Hamilton County boasts a diverse population that speaks many languages, the board wanted to find a way to bring inclusivity to the theater and community.

“We’ve been wanting to do something for the Spanish speaking community for some time,” said HERO Board member Kay Ross.

“We wanted to find a positive way to embrace the entire community,” said HERO Board Vice President Tyler Abens.

“I believe it was a board member idea initially,” said HERO Board member Brian Miller. “It is something we have been discussing for quite a while.”

“I think it’s great to have an extra option for the Spanish speaking population here,” said Abens. “We want to embrace and celebrate the diversity of Webster City. We want them to feel at home and a part of the community.”

“My view as a councilman is we need to offer as many amenities as we can to as many citizens as we can,” Miller said. “Part of Webster City growing is offering a variety of things for people to do.”

“I feel the reason it is so meaningful is we are growing and trying to find new ways to interact with the community as it grows. The HERO Board is always working to find ways to improve on what we are already doing,” Miller said. “We have some big things we are working on down the road we hope to be able to announce those plans soon.”

Adult tickets cost $4 for 2-D and $6 for 3-D. Children’s tickets cost $3 for 2-D and $5 for 3-D. The concession stand will be open. According to Ross, the theater is hoping to have translators at the concession stand also. The board hopes to continue this movie night as long as movies are compatible with the second language option.

According to the Webster Theater’s Facebook page, the Help Entertain & Restore Organization, Inc. (HERO) is a non-profit corporation formed to renovate and re-open a cornerstone of downtown life, the Webster Theater.

The HERO Board is comprised of seven members: President Jeff Pingel, Vice President Tyler Abens, Secretary/treasurer Jerry Kloverdanz, Kay Ross, Jake Pulis, Brian Miller and Terry Christian.
