One person is dead and another is in critical condition following a house fire late Wednesday night in Webster City.

Webster City Fire Department was called to 603 Ohio St. shortly before 11 p.m. when a neighbor reported the fire.

The two-story home is divided into an upstairs and downstairs apartment. A male and female were found in the upstairs apartment by firefighters. Both were transported to Van Diest Medical Clinic. Officials have confirmed that the male died. The female was taken by air ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals where she remains in critical condition.

Fire officials said the fire started in an upstairs room.

One firefighter was treated and released for injuries sustained in the fire.
