NEVADA — The Webster City track and field teams punched six tickets to the upcoming state meet at a Class 3A co-ed state qualifier. Justin Callahan advanced in two events, with Jayden Weinzetl joining him for the boys. On the girls side, Isabel Grossoehme, Adysen Poppen and Jakaela Cherry all secured spots. Callahan will run in the 400 and 400 hurdles, Weinzetl the 100, Grossoehme the 400, and both Poppen and Cherry will be in the shot put event. BELLE PLAINE — The South Hamilton boys golf team secured a spot in a district meet by winning a Class 1A sectional here Wednesday. The Hawks finished with a team score of 324, besting BCLUW by 10 strokes for top honors. They will now head to Mason City for a chance to qualify for the state tournament on Monday. The Webster City girls soccer team got the jump on Clear Lake, but the Lions rallied for three unanswered goals for a 4-1 win on Tuesday. SPENCER — The Webster City girls tennis team earned a pair of Top-4 finishes in doubles on Monday in a regional meet. Olivia Gallentine and Morgan Hackbarth topped teammates Allie Severe and Alivia Burns in the consolation championship, placing third overall. Severe and Burns were fourth. Entering out of the play-in round, Gallentine and Hackbarth posted convincing straight-set wins to reach the quarterfinals. Webster City and South Hamilton will compete in state-qualifying track and field meets on Thursday. The Lynx head to Nevada for Class 3A action alongside Ballard, Boone, Carroll, Gilbert, Humboldt, the host Cubs and North Polk. The Hawks are in Madrid for a 1A meet with ACGC, AGWSR, Ankeny Christian, Audubon, CAM, Colo-Nesco, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Empigo Academy, Glidden-Ralston, Nodaway Valley, Paton-Churdan, West Fork and Woodward Academy.
