Algona boys too much for Webster City in NCC clash

ALGONA — The Webster City boys basketball team ran into a buzzsaw on Friday night. Algona (3-1 overall) used a 28-point performance from Jacob Burns to post a 75-48 victory over the Lynx (1-2). For Webster City, Jaxon Griffith led the way with 14 points. Zack Lahr added 10 points. Algona’s Levi Walker (11) and Nathan Manske (10), Jaxon Eischen (11) and Landon Campbell (10) also scored in double figures. Coyce Bertran was near double digits with eight points for the Lynx. Alex Staley added six points. Grant Arends (4), William Ruby (4) and Jayden Lacey (2) also scored for Webster City.

JEWELL — The South Hamilton girls closed out the month with a 41-37 victory over West Marshall here last Friday night, snapping a two-game losing skid in the process. FORT DODGE — The Webster City wrestling team competed at the 51st annual Don Miller Invitational on Saturday. The Lynx placed ninth and scored 56.5 points. Jaysen Vankham (4-5) had the highest finish for Webster City, placing third at 138. Vankham reached the semifinals with a pin. Vankham lost to Will Larson of Decorah in the semis. He bounced back with a 52 second fall over Emmetsburg’s Jackson Wilcoxon in the third place match. Gavin Wynkoop (6-3) was fourth at 144 pounds. He advanced to the semifinals with a fall. STORY CITY — The South Hamilton girls fell to Roland-Story here Tuesday night, 45-12. The Norsemen outscored the Hawks in the opening eight minutes, 13-2, and held a commanding 20-point halftime lead. Leading the way for South Hamilton was Tessa Skartvedt, as she recorded six rebounds and blocked four shots. Riley Johnson had 15 points to lead Roland-Story. The Hawks host West Marshall on Friday night. Varsity girls tip time is set for 6 p.m. in the team’s final game before winter break.
