HAMPTON – The Webster City cross country program posted three Top-20 finishes here Tuesday at the North Central Conference Championships.

The Lynx boys placed sixth overall behind Daniel Murillo-Delfin and Aiden Wardell.

Murillo-Delfin was 18th overall in 18:19, with Wardell coming in right behind him in 19th with a time of 18:21.

Jordan Betts was 40th, Kaleb Draeger finished 43rd, Kade Kruger was 45th, Max Barrick 47th and Grayson Henderson 51st.

"We had a good night in some challenging conditions," WCHS head coach Derek Turner said. "It downpoured on us for 20 minutes before the meet, which led to some muddy areas along the course. Despite that, we had one of our best meets of the year on both sides.

"Aiden had one of his best nights this year, as did Jordan. Daniel was solid as usual. We had a hard time getting out in the first mile, but battled back well in the second."

Clear Lake's Tate Tysdahl was the race winner, leading the Lions to the team title.

For the Webster City girls, Izzy Grossoehme crossed home in 13th with a time of 21:49. The Lynx placed seventh overall.

Lyla Brookshire was 31st, Marlene Saavedra Mendoza 32nd, Quynn Pruismann 44th,

Mckenna Buakham 54th, Haedyn Soesbee 55th and Megan VanDeer 64th.

"The girls had a terrific night when you look at how we competed," Turner said. "Izzy secured a Top-15 finish for us. Marlene had her best race of the year, which helped us quite a bit.

"Again, muddy conditions, but really happy with how both the boys and girls competed and represented us."

Meghan Korbel from Charles City won the race and Clear Lake the team crown.

Webster City heads to Clear Lake next Wednesday for a Class 3A qualifier.
