The Webster City football team was unable to keep up with Sioux City Heelan here last Friday for Homecoming, falling 35-0.

The Crusaders used four first-half touchdowns to gain control of the district contest with the Lynx.

Kaleb Hansen ran 26 times for 118 yards, and Coyce Bertran added 55 yards rushing. Grant Arends and Gordon Bargfrede each caught two passes from Alex Staley.

Arends had two sacks on defense while recording eight tackles. Edwin Ramos Nolasco had two tackles for loss and recovered a fumble. Hansen also had a tackle for loss.

"Kaleb did a nice job of running hard against a good, physical Heelan defense," WCHS head coach Andy Brim said. "Coyce made a couple tremendous plays defensively, as we had to make some adjustments on the fly.

"Peyton Weisberg played his best game on the offensive line."

The Crusaders (4-3 overall), state runner-ups last year, converted big plays to earn the win. Grant Whitcomb had an 82-yard touchdown catch from Elijah Mielke, and Bodee Schramm had a 70-yard run. Mielke also had a 30-yard scoring jaunt and threw three TD passes.

Webster City (1-6) heads to Algona this Friday night before closing out the season the following week back here vs. MOC-Floyd Valley.

"As a team, the kids continue to play extremely hard and with fantastic effort against top-tier opponents week in and week out," Brim said.
