SIOUX CENTER – After picking up their first victory last week, the Webster City football team was looking to build a streak.
The Lynx (1-5 overall, 1-1 in the district) ran into a buzzsaw on Friday, though, falling to third-ranked (Class 3A) Sioux Center (6-0, 2-0) by a final of 56-21.
The Warriors reached the end zone twice in each quarter.
Webster City scored both on the ground and through the air. Kaleb Hansen had a big night on the ground, toting the ball 31 times for 144 yards and scoring twice. He had a long score of 13 yards.
Coyce Bertran added 57 yards rushing for Webster City. Alex Staley threw a 29-yard touchdown strike to Grant Arends.
Defensively, Boston Farley recorded 4.5 tackles. Arends contributed four and Hansen had three.
Grayson Simonton intercepted a pass.
It was a big night through the air and on the ground for Sioux Center, which rushed for 348 yards and threw for 242. The Warriors had four rushing touchdowns go for over 49 yards.
Ezra Hibma had 113 yards on the ground and a TD. He had a long score of 54 yards.
McArthur Schulteman added a 74-yard touchdown, followed by Cohen Hulstein (71) and Tate Swager on the ground.
Hibma was 12-for-16 passing with four scores and 242 yards. Parker Smit caught five balls for 106 yards and two touchdowns.
Smit had a long score of 34 yards.
Brandon Perez-Hietbrink added four catches and 80 yards and reached the end zone twice.
Webster City now hosts Sioux City Heelan on Friday for homecoming. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
