CLEAR LAKE – The Webster City cross country team competed at a Class 3A state qualifying meet on Wednesday.

Both the boys and girls finished 10th overall in the team standings, as consistent No. 1 runners Daniel Murillo-Delfin and Izzy Grossoehme once again led the way.

"Beyond the team finishes, I couldn't be more proud of this group," WCHS head coach Derek Turner said. "We had so many personal records and season records, and it's been awesome to see the hard work these athletes have put in paying off.

"The improvement, determination and willingness to keep pushing each other are what make coaching his group so special. They have come a long way over the year."

Murillo-Delfin, a junior, was 24th overall in 17:44. Aidan Wardell placed 45th in 18:19, with Max Barrick finishing 52nd. Jordan Betts was 61st, Kade Kruger 63rd, Kaleb Draeger 64th and Ben Barner 72nd.

Betts and Draeger are juniors like Murillo-Delfin. Wardell is a sophomore, Barner and Kruger are freshmen, and Barrick is just an eighth-grader.

Grossoehme, the lone senior competing for Webster City, finished 20th in 20:38. Lyla Brookshire was 31st in 21:44, followed by Haedyn Soesbee in 64th, Rubi Andrade-Murillo 67th, Mckenna Buakham 68th, Quynn Pruismann 75th and Marlene Saavedra Mendoza 78th.

Soesbee, Andrade-Murillo and Buakham are juniors, Mendoza is a sophomore, Pruismann a freshman, and Brookshire just an eighth-grader.

"The results are great, but seeing these kids grow, compete and get rewarded for their hard work is even better," Turner said. "We are proud of every single one of them, and excited for what the future holds."
