Hawks search for win

JEWELL – The South Hamilton football team will honor its seniors here on Friday night vs. Pocahontas Area.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Taylor Field.

The Hawks (1-4 overall, 0-2 in district) are set to compete at home for the final time, as they will recognize Kaden Dean, John Sandgren, Ryan Oskvig, Marlon Gromnitza, Becker, Davien Henderson, Spencer Davis and Lyndon Johnson.

Last week, South Hamilton fell to East Sac County here, 37-6. Playing without leading rusher Wyatt Gelder, Kash Northrop picked up the slack as the sophomore ran for 79 yards.

Garrett Johnson had a first quarter touchdown on the ground, adding 66 yards rushing, with Reggie Williams going for 70. The Hawks amassed 223 yards rushing on 41 carries, with Johnson completing a pass to Williams.

Gelder leads the team with 489 yards and six touchdowns, as Northrop has 234 and a score.

Pocahontas Area (2-3, 0-2) has dropped back-to-back games to Manson Northwest Webster and Emmetsburg. Coen Hammen has thrown for 700 yards and six TDs, adding 195 yards rushing and two scores.

Karson Welander is the leading rusher with 358 yards and three touchdowns, and the top receiver with 225 yards and a TD on 11 receptions.

South Hamilton won the first two meetings between the teams in 2018 and the following year while the Indians scored a 43-36 decision last season.
