Webster City teams run at Mason City

MASON CITY – Both Webster City cross country teams earned Top-10 showings here Tuesday at the Riverhawk Invitational, hosted by Mason City.
The Lynx were fifth in the girls standings and the boys were eighth. Izzy Grossoehme scored an individual Top-10.
Grossoehme had a time of 21:27 to place seventh. Mason City Newman's Alexis Mujica was the race winner in 18:26, with Des Moines Roosevelt claiming team honors.
Eighth-grader Lyla Brookshire pushed through the conditions to finish 21st in 22:25 for Webster City, and Rubi Andrade-Murillo was 40th. Mckenna Buakham finished 49th, Quynn Pruismann was 59th and Megan VanDeer 60th.
"The girls battled through a wet, muddy and sloppy course that wasn't particularly difficult on its own," WCHS head coach Derek Turner said. "But the conditions definitely made things tougher. Despite the mud, the team continued to show great improvement and put together a strong race.
"The fifth-place finish is another great sign of the progress this group is making as the season continues."
For the Lynx boys, Daniel Murillo-Delfin crossed in 18:27 – good enough for 23rd overall. Max Barrick was 46th, Kaleb Draeger 48th, Jordan Betts 58th, Kade Kruger 61st, Grayson Henderson 62nd and Braxton Plain 81st.
"The boys faced the same conditions, with the mud making it tougher to maintain good footing and rhythm," Turner said. "It wasn't a day built for fast times, but the boys handled the conditions and competed hard throughout the race. I'm very pleased with how our group is coming together."
Henry Hansen from Mason City finished first, leading the Riverhawks to the title. The Lynx finished ahead of five other teams, including North Central Conference rivals St. Edmond and Hampton-Dumont/CAL.
Webster City runs next on Monday at the Algona Invitational.
