HUXLEY – The Webster City cross country teams competed here Monday evening at the Ballard Invitational.
Aiden Wardell and Daniel Murillo-Delfin cracked the Top-50 to lead the Lynx to a 12th place performance overall.
Wardell was 36th in 18:33 while Murillo-Delfin finished 47th in 18:58. Kaleb Draeger was 64th, Max Barrick finished 67th, Jordan Betts was 79th, Cade Kruger placed 86th and Grayson Henderson was 89th.
"Our boys lineup performed well," WCHS head coach Derek Turner said. "Aiden led with Daniel right behind him. We need our three, four and five to move up closer to our top runners if we want to score well.
"We will keep working on it, but overall, I'm pleased with Max, Kaleb and Jordan stepping up for us in those scoring positions."
The Webster City girls finished 13th overall led by Lyla Brookshire. The eighth-grader was 36th in 23:00.
Quynn Pruismann placed 66th, McKenna Buakham was 70th, Rubi Andrade-Murillo took 72nd, Megan VanDeer crossed in 76th, Marlen Saavedra-Mendonza was 77th and Haedyn Soesbee finished 79th.
"Our girls had a really nice team race," Turner said. "We are getting stronger and starting to move our packs up, which has been great. I was happy to see Lyla and Quynn have strong performances on a difficult course.
"We were lucky to get the meet in with the weather being volatile, but it turned out to be a great night of racing."
The Lynx head to Clear Lake on Thursday.
