By Dana Becker 2 min read

The Webster City girls tennis team split a triangular here on Monday, earning a win over Oelwein while falling to Grundy Center.

Natalie Segar, Gabbie Sebert, Olivia Bergman, Abby Heckert and Hayee Ades all scored singles victories for the Lynx as part of a 7-2 triumph vs. Oelwein. In doubles, Segar and Sebert, along with Chloe Bakken and Bergman, finished things off.

Ades won her singles match at No. 6 without dropping a game, and Segar picked up her first victory at the No. 1 position. Segar and Sebert earned a tiebreaker victory at No. 1 doubles.

"I thought we played some of our best tennis early against Oelwein," WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. "We controlled points, we played with more confidence and made great adjustments. Against Grundy Center, I thought we lost some of our energy.

"That falls on me. I need to find a way to keep us focused and locked in on improving with every shot."

In the match with Grundy Center, Ades had the lone win, scoring a 4-1, 4-0 triumph at No. 6. Bergman pushed her opponent at No. 4 singles to a tiebreaker before coming up short.

Earning junior varsity wins vs. Oelwein were Lizzie Westrum and Paisyn Bare, Ava Otteros and Miley Mason, Elizabeth Van denmark and Maddex Lehman, and Dayana Rodriguez and Ash Tinoco.

Ades and Mason, Otteros and Heckert, Van Demark and Brielle Burgin, Ava Ely and Sarahi Terrazas, Harper Taylor and Rodriguez, and Van Demark and Burgin were junior varsity winners vs. Grundy Center.
