The Webster City football team was unable to get in the win column this past Friday night, falling to perennial power Clear Lake in their 2026 home opener by a final of 70-14.
Kaleb Hansen ran for 54 yards and a touchdown, and Alex Staley hit Grant Arends for a 24-yard score. Arends also had a sack and forced a fumble that he recovered on defense for the Lynx (0-3 overall).
Hansen converted on a two-point conversion attempt run.
Edwin Ramos Nolasco had four tackles and Israel Torres picked off a pass for Webster City.
"We had a goal (Friday night) to go out and play our best game, and I think we were successful (in certain areas)," WCHS head coach Andy Brim said. "We have steadily improved and it showed against a very good Clear Lake team.
"Offensively, we were able to move the ball early on and that will be something we can build on this week. Defensively, Clear Lake is a tough matchup for us. They can be very good both passing and running."
The Lions (3-0) raced out to a big advantage with five touchdowns in the second quarter, taking a 35-6 lead into the break after a scoreless first. Clear Lake scored twice in the third and three times in the fourth.
Up next for the Lynx will be their final non-district game at Gilbert on Friday night. The Tigers improved to 2-1 with a 16-0 victory over Boone last week.
"Playing the non-district schedule that we have is something that we hope will pay off for us when we start district play in Week 5," Brim said. "We will be battle-tested against four really good opponents (Webster City has also faced Iowa Falls-Alden and Fort Dodge), which will hopefully give us experience to compete in what will most likely be a very challenging (Class) 3A, District 1."
