HUXLEY – The Webster City girls tennis team opened up the season with a pair of duals against Ballard and Dike-New Hartford last Friday.
The Lynx fell to the Bombers, 9-0, and to the Wolverines, 9-0. The teams played best-of-three sets, with scoring to four.
Gabbie Sebert, Natalie Segar and Ava Otteros each won a game in singles for Webster City. The doubles team of Segar and Chloe Bakken, and Haylee Ades and Otteros all toook two games. Sebert and Olivia Bergman captured three.
"Every season is a process," WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. "Ballard and Dike-New Hartford are both great teams with solid programs that are going to give you something to learn. I was proud of the improvements we made and our attitudes got better as the day went on, along with our play."
Bergman won two games in singles vs. Dike-New Hartford, with Sebert, Bakken and Otteros each winning one. The doubles tandem of Ades and Otteros took a game as well.
Webster City hosts Grundy Center and Oelwein in another triangular on Friday to open the home portion of its 2026 schedule.
