Lynx begin NCC play with four-set win

The Webster City volleyball team opened North Central Conference play with a four-set victory over Hampton-Dumont/CAL here last Thursday night.
Scores were 18-25, 25-18, 25-15 and 25-18.
Freshman Allison Arends had another big game, recording 15 kills. Tristyn Wright added eight kills, Jaylyn Bahrenfuss had six and both Evie Davis and Avery Poppen each contributed four.
Wright also had 15 digs, four assists and was 20-for-20 serving with two aces. Tessa Hansen had 14 digs and Briley VanDeer 10 digs with 12 assists, two blocks and an ace.
"We started kind of slow and were not as aggressive as we needed to be on defense in the first set," WCHS head coach Jess Howard said. "But in the other three sets, the girls set the tone early and played much more consistently and were much faster."
Bahrenfuss added 18 assists, nine digs and was 12 of 12 serving with an ace. Charlee Olson had six digs and an ace while Poppen added six digs and three aces on 21 of 23 serving.
Davis finished with six blocks.
Webster City finished second at the St. Edmond Invitational, going 4-1. The lone loss was to Aplington-Parkersburg, as the Falcons claimed the tournament title.
The Lynx topped Bishop Garrigan (21-11, 21-12), Pocahontas Area (21-16, 21-19), Southeast Valley (22-20, 21-7) and the host Gaels (16-21, 23-21, 15-11).
