BOONE – The Webster City girls tennis team took part in the Boone Invitational here this past Friday, placing fourth overall.
The host Toreadors racked up 175 points to finish first, as Council Bluffs St. Albert was second and Des Moines Lincoln third. The Lynx were just six points back of the Railsplitters.
Lizzie Westrum in singles, along with the doubles teams of Natalie Segar and Chloe Bakken, and Miley Mason and Abby Heckert, each led Webster City with third place finishes overall in their brackets.
Westrum went 1-2 on the day competing in the No. 3 singles spot, as the freshman scored a 9-2 victory over Paw Aye from Lincoln.
"This was a great opportunity for us against some solid programs to get better and to learn a lot," WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. "I think we had great attitudes about that coming in, and we definitely showed a lot of improvement because of it."
Segar and Bakken claimed a 9-2 victory in the No. 1 doubles division over a team from Lincoln, with Mason and Heckert winning 7-4 over a pair of Railsplitters.
Both Gabbie Sebert and Olivia Bergman each placed fourth in singles, as did the doubles pairing of Haylee Ades and Ava Otteros.
In junior varsity results, Hilary Warden and Grace Andrews were second in the No. 2 doubles division, with Breille Burgin and Elizabeth Van Demark finishing third at No. 1.
Both Paisyn Bare and Ava Ely were third in singles for junior varsity, as the Lynx placed second overall behind Boone.
Webster City will host Clear Lake in North Central Conference action on Tuesday.
