Action heats up at Hamilton County Speedway

The third annual Mike Baker Memorial was held on Saturday night at the Hamilton County Speedway.

Nearly 70 drivers competed in five different classes at the venerable central Iowa race track.

Kyle Brown of Madrid was the Wehr’s Machine USRA Modifieds feature winner, with Joe Chisholm of Osage crossing in the runner-up position.

Fort Dodge’s Tyler Crimmins took the checkered flag in the USRA Hobby Stocks feature competition, as Crimmins topped fellow local driver Riley Crimmins for the top spot.

Elma’s Brandon Hare was the champion in the USRA Stock Cars feature race. The silver medalist was Derek Green of Granada, Minn.

The USRA B-Mods feature went to Dan Hovden of Decorah. Harley Dais of Winona, Minn. finished in the runner-up position.

Fort Dodge’s Nate Hogan captured the feature event in the Crown Vics bracket, ahead of Taylor Andringa of Granada, Minn.

The point standings are starting to take shape for the season, with Lyle Sathoff of Sherburn, Minn. ahead of Ankeny’s Ben Nading in the USRA Modifieds division. Mason City’s Andrew Inman is leading Fort Dodge’s Myles Michehl in the USRA Stock Cars action.

Blairsburg’s Ty Griffith holds a 22-point lead on Webster City’s Doug McCollough in the USRA B-Mods for the year to date. Fort Dodge’s Nick Sawdy is ahead of Webster City’s Gerald Ford in the Crown Vics category for the season so far.

The Dirt Lane Models is led by Cole Searing of Huron, S.D.

Hamilton County Speedway next welcomes racers for “Wacky Wednesday” during Hamilton County Fair week on July 22. USRA Iron Man Stock Cars & B-Mods will be on the track, as will Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, and Crown Vics. This doubles as “Bingo Night” at HCS, with fans receiving one bingo card each for special prizes.

The next night, on July 23, is the Hamilton County Fair’s “Thursday Night Thunder.” All classes are slated for the lineup, including Iron Man Stock Cars and B-Mods, Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and SLMR East Region.

Friday, July 24, will be the Central Iowa Truck Pullers Association Truck Pull, presented by JA Concrete Construction. Saturday, July 25, is the Hamilton County Speedway Hall of Fame Night at the Races, as well as Kids Night. That schedule includes Modifieds, Stock Cars, B-Mods, Hobby Stocks and Crown Vics.

Sunday, July 26, concludes a busy week at the oldest fair in the state of Iowa with the HCF Trailer and Train Races, presented by Poet. There will be $1,000 on the line to win each class for small, medium, and heavy duty trailer events, and $1,000 to win the train races if at least eight racers are entered.
