Webster City’s softball win streak ends

BOONE — The Webster City softball team had their three-game win streak come to an end here Tuesday night, falling to Boone, 11-1 in four innings.

Alivia Burns scored the lone run for the Lynx (8-8 overall), crossing home when Morgan Tempel plated her in the first inning.

Burns, Jaylyn Bahrenfuss and Haydin Sealine each had a hit for Webster City, as Burns and Bahrenfuss both stole a base.

The Toreadors (8-7) responded to the early run, scoring four in the first, five in the second and two more in the fourth.

“We got off to a fast start, which was just what we wanted to do,” WCHS head coach Brad VanDeer said. “Alivia Burns walked, stole a base, moved to third on Lahr’s ground out and was brought home on Morgan Tempel’s ground out.

“Really liked the execution of manufacturing a run right away in the game. Unfortunately, defensively, we were flat all the way around. Boone took advantage with some hard hit balls and we weren’t able to respond quickly enough or with any urgency after falling behind.”

Webster City, which took on Clarion-Goldfield/Dows on Wednesday, closes out the week at Pocahontas Area on Thursday. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.

Starting at $3.46/week.
