SAYDEL — The Webster City baseball team closed out a busy week with a pair of close losses here Saturday at the Jim Gebhart Tournament.
After falling to Van Meter, 8-7, the Lynx were bested by No. 4 (Class 3A) Saydel, 10-8.
Webster City (15-5 overall) got on the board first vs. the Bulldogs, scoring three. They went up 6-2 behind a three-run fourth before Van Meter took control with five in the fifth.
Carter Mickelson had three hits and drove in four runs, Jaxon Griffith and Braylon Dyvig each ahd two hits and scored twice, with Griffith, Matthew Tesdahl and Aiden Hrnicek all adding an RBI.
Hrnicek stole two bases, as the Lynx had six steals as a team. Syrus Willard pitched four-plus innings, striking out six.
Griffith and Kaleb Hansen each had two runs scored and an RBI vs. Saydel, with Willard driving in two. Hrnicek and Boston Farley each had an RBI, with Griffith stealing four bases and Hansen two.
Last Friday night, the Lynx fell at home to Boone, 9-5. Farley drove in two, as Griffith, Dyvig and Alex Staley each had an RBI.
Up next for Webster City will be a North Central Conference doubleheader vs. Clear Lake on Monday beginning at 5 p.m.
