Webster City girls place fifth at NCC golf meet
MASON CITY — The Webster City girls golf team secured a Top-5 finish here Monday at the North Central Conference meet.
The Lynx shot a 405, placing fifth overall and just four strokes behind Humboldt. Clear Lake won with a 347 followed by Algona and Iowa Falls-Alden.
Charles City, Hampton-Dumont/CAL, Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and St. Edmond rounded out the team standings from Legacy Golf Course.
Hayden McCoy led the way for Webster City with a 100, as Alleyna Dawson was right behind with a 101. Both Carli Jessen and Ellie Peterson shot 101, Mylie Keller had a 104 and Kenley Koop a 109.
“It’s a tough course and the top of the NCC is really loaded with Clear Lake and Algona,” WCHS head coach Jeff Lyons said. “We left a few strokes out there with our putting or we could have been competing for a Top-3 finish.
“We did shoot our 18-hole best team score for the season, cutting 14 strokes off there, so that was a positive.”
The Lynx return to action on Friday when they take part in the Fort Dodge Invitational from the Fort Dodge Country Club at 10 a.m. The field includes the host Dodgers, Ames, Bishop Heelan, Clear Lake, Des Moines East, Gilbert, Humboldt, Mason City, Newton and Waukee Northwest.
