Webster City girls impressive at Boone

BOONE — Tyler Mosbach saw the kind of performances he has been waiting for by the Webster City girls track and field team here Thursday night at the Don Howard Invitational.

The Lynx won six events and had several others secure medals.

Izzy Grossoehme claimed two of those six individual titles, as she was first in the 100 and the 200. Tessa Hansen added a win in the long jump, with Briley VanDeer doing the same in the 100 hurdles.

“Nights like these are what make track so fun,” Mosbach said. “Across the board, the effort was phenomenal. That translated to personal records, season-bests and many times out-placing the seed. We couldn’t ask for any more.

“Hopefully, the trend continues as we move to the latter point of the season when times and places really matter. I honestly believe it will, and even more importantly, I think the girls believe, too.”

Grossoehme won the 100 in a new PR of 13.18 and the 200 in a new personal-record time of 26.48, Hansen had a career-best jump of 15-8 and was second in the 400 hurdles in 1:12.78, as VanDeer claimed the 100 hurdles in 17.01.

VanDeer also added a fifth in the long jump, going 14-2.

Amanda Lahr was the runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 37-1.25, Avery Poppen finished second in the discus with a best of 107-0 and Jakaela Cherry was fourth in the shot put (35-4.5).

Rubi Andrade-Murillo finished fifth in the 1,500 for the Lynx in 6:10.98.

Webster City had a strong showing in the relay portion of the meet, winning two while adding a second, two thirds and a fourth.

Kali Hartnett, Izzy Weinschenk, Hansen and Grossoehme won the 4×200 in a season-best time of 1:49.92, as Hartnett, Tristyn Wright, Weinschenk and Grossoehme captured the 4×100 in 52.30.

Haedyn Soesbe, Evie Davis, Ariauna Reed and Mckenna Buakham were runner-ups in the 4×800, finishing in 11:47.93. The shuttle hurdle relay of VanDeer, Wright, Hartnett and Weinschenk placed third in 1:13.05, as did the distance medley relay of Hansen, Taylor Hejlik, Quinn Ruba and Andrade-Murillo with a time of 5:13.89.

Webster City’s 4×400 of VanDeer, Soesbe, Reed and Hejlik placed fourth.
