Webster City edges Humboldt in soccer

The Webster City boys soccer team earned a tight 3-2 victory over Humboldt on Thursday night.

The Lynx (5-1-2 overall) had 10 shots on goal. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie earlier in the season.

David Villelas had a goal in the ninth minute, then fed Francisco Revolorio Guinac for the second goal in the 17th minute.

“It was probably one of our best starts to the game offensively,” said WCHS soccer coach Craigh Signorin. “The boys put a lot of pressure on Humboldt early and it seemed like it was only a matter of time before we put one away. It wasn’t one of our better chances prior, but David found a loose ball on the top of the box and hit a great ball to the low corner.

“Eight minutes later, David found Francisco through and hit a laser off the crossbar and in.”

Abisai Ramirez-Carmona scored the third goal in the 65th minute.

Nico Christensen had the two Wildcat goals in the 46th and 70th minutes.

It was an all around team effort for the Lynx.

“Freshman Brandon Burney started and played the entire match for us and will continue to do so the rest of the season,” Signorin said. “He handled himself well but I’m sure is very grateful of the line he has in front of him. Grayson (Henderson), Abisai and Domingo (Morales) were outstanding once again. We talked about not giving up silly fouls and that’s exactly what we did too many times last night and it just about cost us as they scored both goals from long free kicks, delivered from goalkeeper Carson Rubel.

“Not only did he contribute there, he saved numerous attacks we had against them.”

The Lynx are back in action on Monday when they travel to Wright County for a 5:30 p.m. contest.

Starting at $3.46/week.
