The Webster City boys tennis team lost a home decision to Hampton-Dumont/CAL on Friday.

The Lynx fell by a final of 7-2.

“Some of the best tennis I’ve seen yet,” said WCHS coach Mark Fisher. “I know it can be frustrating not getting the win, but every meet I see more and more improvements in different areas.

“It’s awesome to see how these guys will take things from practice or past meets and apply them in their matches.”

James Elliott was the lone singles winner for Webster City. Elliott beat Jack Hindin in the No. 5 spot, 6-4, 6-1.

“It was a great match from James,” Fisher said. “Really dominated his match and showed his experience in how he attacked and how he adjusted in his match.

“I was really impressed with Max (Anderson) too. He has improved possibly more than any guy this year.

“Battled in winning the first set, and had lots of great strokes and points to build upon. It’s been fun to see his progress.”

Nathan Wardell and Keaton Gunderson picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory in No. 1 doubles over Sage Bock and Noe Flores.

“This was by far the best Sage and Nate have played in doubles,” Fisher said. “This was a dominant showing. They controlled the net the whole match and put the Hampton group on the defensive the whole match.

“Just really impressed with the confidence and savvy they played with.”

The Lynx are back in action on Wednesday when they host the North Central Conference tournament.

Starting at $3.46/week.
