Lynx girls win triangular in Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE — Hayden McCoy had her best round of the season, leading the Webster City girls golf squad to a first-place finish here on Thursday in triangular action from Lakeside Golf Course.

The Lynx had a team score of 218, finishing eight strokes ahead of Charles City. St. Edmond was third as the host.

McCoy had a par on the ninth, taking two strokes off her previous best score of a 54 earlier in the week. She earned runner-up medalist honors.

Kenley Koop and Abby Heckert both carded rounds of 55, as Carli Jessen had a 56. Ellie Petersen (57) and Alleyna Dawson (58) completed the scoring for Webster City.

Charles City’s Averi Wohlers was the medalist with a 48.

The Lynx concluded the week with their first 18-hole tournament of the season, placing eighth at the Carroll Kuemper Invitational. The host Knights won with a 354. Webster City shot a 419.

McCoy led with a 101, followed by Petersen’s 104. Jessen and Heckert both had 107s, Dawson a 108 and Koop a 118.

“It was nice to get our first 18-hole tournament in,” WCHS head coach Jeff Lyons said. “We knew it was a loaded field, so we were shooting to be under 440 as a team. Coming in well under that was a pleasant surprise.”

The Lynx played a North Central Conference triangular in Clear Lake on Monday with the Lions and Humboldt. They host Algona on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
