ALGONA — The Webster City boys track and field team appears to be finding the right stride ahead of postseason action.
The Lynx won two events and had nine others place in the Top-5 here Thursday night at the North Central Conference meet.
Webster City finished fourth overall behind Clear Lake, Algona and Iowa Falls-Alden.
Daniel Murillo-Delfin had a part in both of the gold medals, winning the 800-meter run in 2:06.02 while anchoring the 4×800-meter relay to victory in 8:40.45.
Gabe Thumma, Kaleb Draeger and Jack Barner joined Murillo-Delfin on the victorious relay.
Justin Callahan broke his own school records in both the 400-meter hurdles and 400-meter run. The senior was second in the hurdles in 55.29 and third in the 400 in 49.43.
“We jumped past Humboldt on the last race to finish fourth in the always tough NCC championship meet,” WCHS head coach Chad Hisler said. “We had numerous season and lifetime bests, which we expected. I was proud of how our kids battled for every point and competed to the best of our ability.”
Rylan Stroner, Murillo-Delfin, Kaleb Hansen and Callahan clocked a 3:31.33 to place second in the 4×400-meter relay.
Jaxon Griffith claimed bronze in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.43, as did the sprint medley relay of Griffith, Hansen, Stroner and Callahan, as they went 1:34.13.
Stroner was fourth in the 400 (50.46) and Barner fourth in the 1,600 (5:00.06).
Aiden Hrnicek, Gavin Wynkoop, Zakiah Christensen and Adison Punkham placed fifth in the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:08.36, as did Griffith, Israel Torres, Aiden Hrnicek and Luke Blake in the 4×100 (45.95). Torres, Hansen, Dane Hansen and Blake finished sixth in the 4×200 (1:35.54).
Aidan Wardell was seventh in the 3,200 (11:10.86) and Beau Nohrenberg placed seventh in the shot put (46-9.75). Thumma was eighth in the 1,600 (5:07.11) and Cole Nohrenberg eighth in the discus (128-5).
In junior varsity action, Arlen Lake won the 800, Zach Lahr the discus and Peyton Weisberg the shot put.
