JEFFERSON — The Webster City girls track and field team had a strong showing here Monday night at the Greene County Invitational.
The Lynx swept the Top-3 spots in the shot put, led by the winning throw from Amanda Lahr.
Lahr, a junior, had a throw of 36-7.5 to top teammate Jakaela Cherry, who was second with a throw of 35-3.25. Freshman Brynlee Maas placed third with a throw of 32-9.
Cherry was also the runner-up in the discus with a toss of 109-1 while Avery Poppen finished third in the event (106-11) and Lahr was eighth.
“The girls competed from the geto-go and that was really good to see,” WCHS head coach Tyler Mosbach said. “From the top to the bottom of the roster, kids were trying to beat the person in front of them. That is the kind of attitude that is necessary to keep getting better as a team.
“Our throwers once again had a dominant showing. We had numerous PRs and season-bests throughout the meet.”
Briley VanDeer turned in a third place finish in the 100 hurdles in 17.63 and Isabel Grossoehme was third in the 200 in 26.92.
Isabel Weinschenk finished fourth in the 100 (14.10) and sixth in the 200 (28.41). Evie Davis added an eighth in the 200 (2:58.01).
The Lynx had four relays finish in the Top-4, including seconds by the 4×200 and the shuttle hurdle. Tessa Hansen, Tristyn Wright, Kali Hartnett and Grossoehme ran the 4×200 in 1:51.01, as the shuttle hurdle of Hansen, VanDeer, Hartnett and Ava Otteros went 1:15.94.
The 4×800 with Davis, Haedyn Soesbe, Ariauna Reed and Mckenna Buakham placed third in 12:00.37 and the 4×400 of Hartnett, Hansen, Weinschenk and Grossoehme was fourth in 4:25.45.
