Justin Callahan went to Iowa City this past Saturday and broke the Webster City school record in the 400-meter dash.

The senior recorded a time of 50.25 at the Eastern Iowa Track and Field Festival. The previous mark stood for 57 years, set by Doug Gowdown in 1969 at 50.54.

The Lynx boys capped the week by competing on Friday at the Charlie Bunn Relays in Humboldt. They were fourth overall, as North Central Conference rival Algona picked up top honors. Host Humboldt was second and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura finished third, 14 points ahead of the Lynx.

Webster City finished first in the sprint medley relay, as Jaxon Griffith, Kaleb Hansen, Rylan Stroner and Callahan went 1:35.79. That time broke the school record, which was set in 2025 with Hansen and Callahan included.

Griffith and Callahan once again led the way individually, as both scored event victories.

Griffith won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.44. Callahan made it a sweep by winning the 400-meter hurdles in 57.24.

Stroner added a second in the 200 in 23.23, as did Gabe Thumma in the 1,600 at 5:09.46.

“It was great to get outside and compete,” WCHS head coach Chad Hisler said. “We were missing a few guys and did not completely load up, but I was extremely happy with our effort and how we got ready and competed.

“We had a lot of great performances and many season and personal bests.”

Kaleb Draeger was fifth in the 400 and sixth in the high jump, as Aiden Hrnicek (110 hurdles), Aiden Wardell (800) and Zack Lahr (shot put) all finished sixth.

The 4×200 relay of Dane Hansen, Grayson Simonton, Israel Torres and Hansen took third in 1:37.47, as did the 4×800 relay of Draeger, Wardell, Thumma and Arlen Lake, going 9:14.91.

The Lynx had three junior varsity event winners in Zakiah Christensen (110 hurdles), Gavin Wynkoop (400 hurdles) and Beau Nohrenberg (discus).

Webster City is at Southeast Valley Invitational on Monday in Gowrie.

Starting at $3.46/week.
