Lynx girls in action at Ram Early Bird

JEFFERSON — The Webster City girls track and field team braved quickly-dropping temperatures to compete here on Friday night at the Ram Early Bird hosted by Greene County.

Over a dozen other schools joined the Lynx, who came away with a number of Top-5 performances.

Junior Izzy Grossoehme and classmate Amanda Lahr each earned runner-up finishes, as Grossoehme took second in the 200-meter dash in 27.31 and Lahr was second in the shot put with a throw of 35-7.25.

The sprint medley relay of Kali Hartnett, Isabel Weinschenk, Tessa Hansen and Grossoehme added a third runner-up effort, clocking a time of 1:52.60.

“It was nice that we were able to get a meet last second after having our first two canceled,” WCHS head coach Tyler Mosbach said. “In order to keep progressing, we needed opportunities to compete against some other kids.

“I thought we battled all night against some very tough competition. We had some really godo stuff, including our sprint medley and shuttle hurdle relays running faster than they had all of last season.”

Hansen was third in the long jump with a best leap of 14-5.5, and placed sixth in the 100 hurdles in 17.74. Evie Davis was fourth in the 400 (1:09.73), Avery Poppen finished sixth in the discus (96-9) and seventh in the shot put (31-2), and Jaylyn Bahrenfuss was sixth in the high jump (4-5).

Briley VanDeer was seventh in the long jump (13-5).

The 4×100 (53.11) and shuttle hurdle (1:15.39) relays both placed fourth. Hartnett, Weinschenk, Tristyn Wright and Grossoehme ran the 4×100 while VanDeer, Weinschenk, Hartnett and Hansen comprised the shuttle hurdle.

Webster City is set to run Tuesday at the Hannover Relays, hosted by fellow North Central Conference member Algona.

Starting at $3.46/week.
