Lynx boys tie on the road at Humboldt
HUMBOLDT — The Webster City boys soccer team fought to a 1-1 draw with North Central Conference rival Humboldt here Monday night.
Jaime Martinez Andrial scored for the Lynx off an assist by Aaron Mendoza.
Martinez Andrial had a team-high six shots, with three on goal. Mendoza had four shots with three on goal while Abisai Ramirez-Carmona also had four shots. Dany Morales, Aeden Anderson and Geovany Morales Lopez each had a shot.
Edwin Ramos Nolasco tallied two saves in net.
“With the inexperience, we are going to have some let downs, but this was a win that we gave away,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “Humboldt battled the entire game where we played lax at times and didn’t match their intensity. We started well with a great ball through from Aaron to Jaime who slotted it past with his left foot. We had one or two other really good chances that we couldn’t connect.
Martinez Andrial gave Webster City a 1-0 lead with a goal in the opening half of play, but Humboldt answered in the second to secure the draw.
“As a coach, you’re trying to secure the win and make what you feel is a necessary change,” Signorin said. “I dropped a man back the last three minutes to make the line more compact and stronger, but unfortunately, we ended up giving up a (penalty kick) to tie the game.
“We’re going to continue to learn and grow, but the effort should always be there. Although Edwin wasn’t tested much, he and Abisai played outstanding for us.”
The Lynx lead the series with the Wildcats since 2011, 17-9-2.
Webster City hosts Wright County on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
