Hat trick for Putney as Lynx post 3-0 win
Janey Putney had herself a game, as the Webster City senior recorded a hat trick in a 3-0 victory over Wright County this past Thursday evening.
Putney scored twice in the first half and added a third goal in the second stanza for the Lynx. Julia Griep, Heidi Mendoza and Sandra Fuentes Cruz each had an assist.
“Despite the rain and cold temperatures, the team played focused and with enthusiasm,” WCHS head coach Kristine Mason said. “It was great to see them have some fun. We told Janey that it’s time to be selfish a bit in front of the goal and it paid off in a big way. A hat trick that could have easily been five goals was (still) well-deserved.
“Sandra and Jayme (Perez) came close several times to the back of the net, but their time will come. We were thrilled to see several players get opportunities in the attack. We also had a chance to move some people around and try new positions to explore our depth in different areas of the field and we’re really excited by what some of our young players are bringing to the table.”
In net, Kate Feltz saved all three shots she faced from the Broncos.
Webster City dropped a 5-0 decision to Iowa Falls-Alden on Friday.
The Lynx host Hampton-Dumont/CAL on Monday.
