Chad Hisler likes where the Webster City boys track team is at heading into the 2026 season.

Hisler has a big senior class, with 12 athletes on the roster providing veteran leadership.

Lynx senior Justin Callahan will look to build on his state experience after finishing 11th in the 400-meter dash and 13th in the 400-meter hurdles last spring.

Hisler feels good about his overall numbers, with 35 athletes on the team — including 20 returning letterwinners.

“We have some talented kids back who are ready to step up to the challenge,” said Hisler, who is in his 11th season at Webster City and 28th overall. “We are strong in the 400 range and competitive in our sprints.”

Senior Jaxon Griffith is also back after a promising 2025 campaign. Griffith won every high hurdle event until back issues slowed him down the stretch.

Twin brothers Beau and Cole Nohrenberg are back in the throwing events for the Lynx.

Also returning to make key contributions will be seniors Jack Barner, Gabe Thumma and Aiden Hrnicek.

Junior Kaleb Hansen and sophomore Daniel Murillo-Delfin, along with classmate Rylan Stroner, will be in the lineup mix. Stroner is strong in the sprints and 400s for the Lynx, and is coming off a broken leg from the football season.

Junior Zack Lahr, who cleared 40 feet in the shot put, is also back.

Hisler also likes what he sees from his freshman class.

“We have about 10 freshmen out,” Hisler said. “We have some very talented ones. We have to bring them along and make sure they have good practices and are consistently in the weight room.”

Webster City will have to replace a key state component from last year. Graduated standout Jayden Weinzetl finished 11th in the 100-meter dash.

The Lynx opened their indoor season on Friday, competing in Clear Lake. Murillo won the 800 in a time of 2:06.81. The 4×400 quartet of Callahan, Murillo-Delfin, Dane Hansen and Kaleb Hansen were second in a time of 3:37.43.

Griffith was third in the 60 hurdles and Callahan was third in the 400 at the meet.

“I think it’s a benefit to run in the indoor season,” Hisler said. “We have some pretty decent long jumpers, so competing indoors gives us a chance to work on that with our pits not being ready yet.

“We kind of used it as a scrimmage to see where we are at and what we have.”

Hisler will be assisted by Derek Turner, Clint Howard, Tyler Mosbach and Brad Van Deer.

Starting at $3.46/week.
