Lynx girls compete at Clear Lake indoor meet
CLEAR LAKE — The Webster City girls track and field team took part in the North Iowa Indoor Championships here last Thursday night.
The Lynx tied for fifth overall with Forest City, as host Clear Lake was first. Algona, Waverly-Shell Rock and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura followed.
“It is always excellent to get out and get some competition under our belt,” WCHS head coach Tyler Mosbach said. “Every year we treat this meet like a scrimmage. It is a time to work out some of the kinks before we get to outdoor season. It is also a good measuring stick to look at from year to year.
“As a whole when we compare our times and distances for our returners we are much further along. This also translated to scoring more team points as well as the highest we have finished at this meet with a tie for fifth. Not everything was perfect, and it was not expected to be. We now have a better understanding of the things that we need to work on, and are better prepared for the rest of the season.”
Izzy Grossoehme kicked off her junior season with a bang, winning the 400 in 59.67 while finishing second in the 200 in a time of 27.39.
In the shot put, Webster City scored a pair of Top-5s, as Amanda Lahr was fourth (35-6) and Jakaela Cherry finished fifth (34-2.5). The Lynx were also third in the 4×200 behind a run of 1:53.23 by Grossoehme, Tristyn Wright, Isabel Weinschenk and Tessa Hansen.
Hansen reached the finals in the 60 hurdles, placing seventh in 10.53. Briley VanDeer also advanced, as she was 10th overall in 10.78.
Hansen added an 11th in the long jump, with VanDeer right behind her in 12th.
Jaylyn Bahrenfuss finished 12th in the high jump, Avery Poppen was 14th in the shot put and Weinschenk finished 18th in the high jump. The 4×800 relay finished ninth and the 4×400 was 10th.
The Lynx open the outdoor season next Tuesday, April 7 at the Richard Ryan Relays in Gowrie.
