SIOUX RAPIDS — The South Hamilton girls were unable to rally out of a first-quarter deficit, falling in Class 2A regional play to Sioux Central, 63-20.
The Rebels jumped out early, leading 17-2 after the opening frame. They advace to face West Fork on Friday in a regional semifinal. The winner of that takes on either Rock Valley or Ridge View in the regional finals.
Tessa Skartvedt scored five points with six rebounds, two blocks and a steal for the Hawks. Rosemary Chamness added four points and Cici Herrick had three.
For Sioux Central (16-6 overall), Avery Wilson tallied a game-high 21 points.
“Tough way to end the season because we know we didn’t play our best basketball,” South Hamilton head coach Mark Henderson said. “Sioux Central is a good team and they made things difficult for us. We had some good looks at the basket in the four quarter and couldn’t get anything to fall.
“We were never able to battle back from that slow start.”
Aliya Erickson and Signe Swenson each had four rebounds for the Hawks (10-13), who will graduate seniors Daytona Ferrie, Isabel Swenson, Lillie Ammerman, Bianca Seaton and Kaylen Trask this spring.
“I’ve been really proud of how hard our girls have worked this year,” Henderson said. “We showed a lot of improvement from last year as a team and as individuals.
“I appreciate all of the time and effort our seniors gave to our program.”
