Road victory for South Hamilton boys
JEFFERSON — The South Hamilton boys secured a road win here Tuesday night over Greene County, 66-56.
The Hawks, who have won two of three overall to close the regular season 3-18, held an early six-point advantage that turned into a 36-20 lead at the half.
Sam Koehnk and Jackson Olmstead each scored 17 points to pace South Hamilton, as Ben Swenson added 14. Luke Martensen finished with nine, Ryan Oskvig had six and King Brown chipped in three.
“At halftime, we talked about working the ball inside-out while continuing to grind,” South Hamilton head coach Jay Heeren said. “Greene County closed the gap to three (in the second half), but we calmed down and pulled ahead.
“I’m very proud of the way the boys have improved throughout the year. It’s tough to have a long losing streak and to try and stop it while also learning that it takes a team to get it done and not just one individual.”
Up next for the Hawks will be the start of Class 2A district action when they head to PCM on Monday. The winner of that contest advances to take on Van Meter.
During the regular season, PCM swept the two games with the Hawks, winning 52-23 and 79-45.
The victory by South Hamilton ended a three-game win streak in the series by the Rams.
