No. 1 Gaels use middle quarters to seal win over Lynx boys

FORT DODGE — The Webster City boys were unable to find their shooting touch here on Tuesday, falling to top-ranked (Class 1A) Fort Dodge St. Edmond by a score of 59-32.
The Gaels, who clinched a share of the North Central Conference with the win, used a 15-7 run in the second quarter to start to distance themselves from the Lynx before a third-period knockout punch.
Webster City was led by Jaxon Griffith, as the senior scored 11 points with three rebounds. Griffith had seven of the nine Lynx points in the opening frame.
Coyce Bertran added seven points and five rebounds, Carter Mickelson finished with five points, and Grant Arends added five rebounds for WCHS.
Mickelson also chipped in three rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.
For St. Edmond, Hunter Horn scored 22 points and both Jacob Koopman and Carson Bargfrede each added eight.
The Gaels outscored Webster City in the third, 22-5, carrying over the momentum from before the break.
Up next for the Lynx will be a trip to Humboldt (12-7) on Friday night. The varsity-only boys contest starts at 7:30 p.m.
