Hawk girls fly past Greene County in finale
JEFFERSON — The South Hamilton girls picked up some momentum heading into postseason play with a 51-44 victory over Greene County here on Tuesday night.
The Hawks outscored the Rams in the fourth, 17-11, to seal the win.
Signe Swenson scored 13 points, Isabel Swenson added 12 and Tessa Skartvedt had six points with 12 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
Isabel Swenson also grabbed seven rebounds with two steals and a block. Signe Swenson had four rebounds and a steal.
“It was a good way to finish out the regular season with a solid conference win that should give us some momentum heading into the postseason,” SH head coach Mark Henderson said. “Neither team shot the ball well from outside, but both teams did a good job of attacking the basket and scoring at the rim.
“I thought our depth played a big factor in this game. We have played a lot of girls all year, and tonight that experience paid off. Our girls off the bench came in with fresh legs and made big plays especially in the fourth quarter.”
South Hamilton finished 14 of 24 from the free throw line and had 11 assists on 17 made field goals. They recorded 13 offensive rebounds, including six from Skartvedt.
“We also did a better job of taking care of the ball,” Henderson said. “Fifteen turnovers is a number that we can win with most nights.”
The Hawks (9-12 overall) host Waterloo Columbus (1-20) on Saturday night in a Class 2A, Region 1 opener at 7 p.m.
