The Webster City girls dug deep and secured a thrilling 42-36 overtime victory vs. Boone here Wednesday night in Class 4A regional play.

With the win, the Lynx (9-13 overall) advance to take on second-ranked Dallas Center-Grimes (19-2) on Saturday night. Tip is set for 7 p.m.

Evie Davis had a monster double-double, scoring 21 points while grabbing 26 rebounds. The sophomore was 10 of 14 from the field and also had five blocks, three assists and two steals.

Davis set two new school records, breaking the single-game rebound total while surpassing the previous single-season mark set by Cassidy Nerland in 2017-18 at 255. Davis now has 266 rebounds on the season.

“The girls battled all night and found a way to win,” WCHS head coach Marty McKinney said. “Give Boone credit for their tenacity on defense, but we really struggled taking care of the ball.

“Thankfully, our defensive effort never wavered and that was the difference in the end.”

Avery Poppen recorded her own double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds, including six offensive boards. Tristyn Wright added for points and Jaylyn Bahrenfuss had three rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.

The Lynx went up early, 11-6, and held a five-point halftime lead. After Boone rallied to tie it, the two battled to a draw in the fourth.

In the extra session, it was all Webster City, as they outscored the Toreadors, 8-2.

“This was our ninth win of the year, which is the most since the 2019-20 season when they also won nine games,” McKinney said. “This was also the first tournament win since the 2018-19 season.

“I am very proud of how the girls have taken pride in elevating our program. We are excited for the opportunity to keep getting better.”

The winner between Webster City and Dallas Center-Grimes takes on either Pella (12-9) or Ballard (9-13) for a spot in the state tournament on Tuesday.
