Hawk girls fall short
JEWELL — The South Hamilton girls were unable to stay with No. 8 PCM here Friday night, falling 67-39.
The Hawks were able to stay close for the first 16 minutes, falling behind 36-22 at the break. Izzy Swenson had eight of her team-high 10 points during that span.
“Despite the loss, I thought our girls did some really nice things,” said South Hamilton head coach Mark Henderson. “We shot the ball well, we worked hard on defense, and we moved the ball well on offense, but we turned the ball over way too much, which has been our biggest problem, especially against good competition.”
Isabel Swenson led the Hawks with 10 points. Adelyn Trask came off the bench with eight points. Kaylen Trask has six, while Emma Lammers and Tessa Skartvedt had five each.
In the third, though, the Mustangs stretched out the advantage, going on a 13-7 run. Kyra Naeve had a team-high 16 points to lead PCM.
The Hawks will hit the court three times this coming week, starting Tuesday against Perry inside the Casey’s Center in Des Moines. They host St. Edmond on Thursday and Greene County on Friday.
