WC grad Moenck will be interim AD at Simpson

INDIANOLA — Former Webster City standout Heath Moenck has been named the interim director of athletics at Simpson College.

Moenck, who is currently in his 15th season leading the Storm cross country program, steps in for Marty Bell, who announced his retirement effective Dec. 31.

Along with being the head cross country coach at Simpson, Moenck has also served as the director of track and field and cross country since 2021.

“I am confident that Heath will do an outstanding job of leading athletics through this transition,” Simpson President Sue Stuebner said. “He has a great understanding of our programs and the current NCAA landscape, as well as our conference. Most importantly, he has earned the respect and trust of his colleagues in athletics and our student-athletes.”

Under the guidance of Moenck, the Storm have earned numerous conference championships, national qualifiers and All-Americans, including former South Central Calhoun star Spencer Moon, who won the NCAA Div. III national title in 2024 in the 10,000-meter event.

Moenck also holds extensive administrative experience through his various Title IX responsibilities, including as coordinator from November 2024 to August 2025, and as deputy for four of the last five years.

He will assume duties beginning Jan. 1 for the spring semester. Simpson plans to launch a national search in 2026, with the goal of finding a new director of athletics by spring.

After a standout career competing for Webster City, Moenck ran at the University of Iowa in both track and field and cross country. He was captain in 2007.

Moenck previously has coached at the University of St. Thomas and Augustana University.

Starting at $3.46/week.
