The Webster City boys scored an emphatic 61-39 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden on Tuesday at home to even their early-season record.

Jaxon Griffith scored 20 points for the Lynx (1-1 overall), with Coyce Bertran (18) and Alex Staley (12) also reaching double figures against the Cadets (1-3).

“I thought in the second half we were really disruptive on the defensive end and that led to us forcing several turnovers,” WCHS head coach Brett Ratcliff said. “We set a tone right out of the gate and made everything difficult for (IF-A) on the offensive end.

“The third quarter is where we really opened the game up.”

Webster City led 31-23 at halftime, then delivered a 19-2 knockout punch in the third period to pull away for good.

The Cadets made only 31 percent of their shots from the field, including just 2 of 17 from three-point range. No IF-A player reached double figures in scoring.

The Lynx, who had opened their season with a one-point loss to Hampton-Dumont/CAL, returns to action at Algona on Friday.

Varsity boys tip is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Webster City’s final contest before the Christmas break.

Starting at $3.46/week.
