Lynx girls open season with mat quadrangular

The Webster City girls wrestling team got the season started on Monday, going 1-2 in a quadrangular with West Fork, BCLUW and Nevada.

Behind falls from Lexi Matthes, Kali Hartnett and Kendra Shultz, along with forfeit wins by Kearsyn Kite, Ana Calles, Madison Culver, Nevaeh Robinson and Joyful Ssuubi, the Lynx topped West Fork, 48-24, for the first dual win in program history.

Webster City dropped duals to BCLUW, 48-27, and Nevada, 42-36.

“It’s early in the season and we got exposure with mat time and first-match jitters out,” WCHS head coach Carson Hartnett said. “We also got exposed in areas we need to work on.

“Proud of the girls for coming together and being part of a newer sport for Webster City, and we got the first dual win for the school.”

Matthes, Kite, Hartnett and Robinson each went 3-0 on the night for the Lynx. Culver had two wins while Calles, Ariana Wilson, Shultz and Ssuubi each had one.

Webster City is back in action on Monday when they compete against Lake Mills, Algona and Hampton-Dumont.

Starting at $3.46/week.
