HEAVY MEDALS
A pair of Webster City standouts were named all-state by the Iowa Football Coaches Association.
Seniors Cole Nohrenberg and Jaxon Griffith scored first and second team status in Class 3A.
“I’m really happy for both Cole and Jaxon,” WCHS head coach Andy Brim said. “They’ve put in a lot of work throughout the years to be able to perform at the level that they do.
“There are a lot of postseason lists, but to be voted all-state by coaches across the state is a real honor. Listening to what other coaches had to say about these guys during the voting process was really rewarding for me as a coach.”
Nohrenberg, an offensive lineman, was placed on the first team for the Lynx. He was the anchor in the trenches for an offense that ran for 2,187 yards and scored 26 offensive touchdowns.
Griffith was named the returner on the second team defense in 3A. He led Webster City with 894 yards rushing and 145 yards receiving on nine receptions, recording eight touchdowns.
On defense, Griffith registered 41.5 tackles with 3.5 for loss, forced two fumbles and picked off three passes. He averaged 25 yards per kickoff return and 10 yards per punt return on the year.
The Lynx finished the season 3-6 overall and tied for third in 3A, District 1, which featured state runner-up Bishop Heelan and semifinalist Sioux Center.
