District honors

JEWELL — Eight members of the South Hamilton football team were honored as all-district selections, including three who made the first-team.

Wyatt Gelder, Parker Stuck and Ben Swenson were all picked for the first team in Class 1A, District 2, as Kash Northrop and Maddux Becker made the second. Lyndon Johnson, Davian Henderson and Brody Harris were all honorable mention.

Gelder, a sophomore, led all of 1A in rushing yards during the regular season, finishing with 1,423 on 192 carries with 16 touchdowns. He averaged over seven yards per carry, registering two games with over 200 and six more with at least 100 yards rushing.

After starting the season with 89 yards in the opener, Gelder went over 115 yards in the next eight games, finishing with a career-high 210 yards vs. district champion Manson Northwest Webster. He also had 202 yards in the final game vs. Eagle Grove, which the Hawks won, 21-20.

Stuck, a senior, recorded 29 tackles with one for loss while Swenson, a sophomore, led South Hamilton with 51 tackles, registering 32 solo stops, 5.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss. He also forced a fumble.

Northrop, a freshman, tallied 17 tackles and picked off two passes, as Becker had 386 yards rushing, a touchdown and made 10.5 tackles on defense with 1.5 sacks.

Harris, a senior, had 46 tackles with 23 solos and 2.5 for loss, as Johnson had 19 tackles and Henderson 10.5. Both Johnson and Henderson are juniors. Johnson also caught three passes for 50 yards.
