South Hamilton’s Garcia punches state XC ticket
JEWELL — Jesus Garcia extended his cross country season by another week, securing a spot in the upcoming Class 1A championships with a strong showing at a state-qualifying meet.
Garcia placed sixth overall to advance as an individual qualifier. The 1A state race takes place Saturday in Fort Dodge.
South Hamilton was ninth overall in the boys standings, as Garcia clocked a time of 17:16. Hayden Hill was 14th in 18:05 for the Hawks.
Kaden Greenlee finished 69th, Evan Gibson was 70th, Miguel Martinez placed 80th, Trevor Zanker was 85th and Caden Christensen finished 87th.
On the girls side, Olivia Beaune finished 14th as South Hamilton was eighth overall. She had a time of 22:14.
Cici Herrick was next in line, placing 28th in 23:18 followed by Bianca Seaton (43rd), Isabel Swenson (54th), Kayley Zanker (62nd), Laurel Johnson (63rd) and Vivian Swenson (69th).
Beaune, Seaton, Isabel Swenson and Zanker are all seniors for the Hawks.
