South Hamilton ready for Homecoming tilt

JEWELL — Homecoming has arrived for the South Hamilton football team, as the Hawks host Emmetsburg this Friday night.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Mike Penning Athletic Complex and Taylor Field.

South Hamilton (0-6 overall, 0-3 in the district) suffered another close loss, falling to Pocahontas Area last week, 43-36. Of the six defeats this year, four have been on the road — and three of those have been by 10 points or less.

Wyatt Gelder is closing in on a strong season, as the sophomore has 878 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns on 124 carries. He is currently the Class 1A leader in rushing yards by 13 over Zane Mullenix of Eddyville-BF.

Maddux Becker has 304 yards rushing while Jose Babcock has 228 and three scores.

Benjamin Swenson anchors the defense with 30 tackles including three sacks. Babcock and Kash Northrop each have an interception.

Emmetsburg (4-2, 2-1) is coming off a loss to Manson Northwest Webster, who the Hawks will play in the final week next Friday back here. Bradyen Yates lead the offense with 844 yards rushing while Tyce Jenness has nine TDs on the ground and four in the air.
