Lynx win five set match

IOWA FALLS — The Webster City volleyball team went through it all in Thursday’s North Central Conference win over Iowa Falls-Alden.

The Lynx (13-9 overall) rallied after losing the first set, winning two. They then held off the Cadets in Game 5 for the win.

Iowa Falls-Alden won the opener 25-21. Webster City fought back for a 25-15, and 25-14 wins. The Cadets forced Game 5 with a 27-25 win. Webster City closed out the match with a 15-9 victory.

“The girls came out flat in Game 1,” said Webster City head coach Jess Howard. “We were not up on our toes and were playing a spot and not an area.

“We didn’t come to the ball to start.”

Webster City trailed 9-6 in the contest, reeling off nine straight for the victory.

“It was cat and mouse back and forth,” Howard said. “We had opportunities to finish the game. In the final set we were down 9-6, but we played confident and didn’t second guess ourselves.”

Tristyn Wright had a banner night, going 61-for-72 attacking with 23 kills. Evie Davis was 16-for-17 with 10 kills.

“Anytime you have someone with 72 attack attempts on the ball that’s great,” Howard said. “She was attacking all areas of the court, playing primarily outside and the back row. She’s a big offensive threat.”

Morgan Hackbarth had a strong defensive night with 32 digs. Alivia Burns had 18, while Janey Putney had 15 and Lovie Pruismann had 14.

“I felt like our defense played the best they have all season,” Howard said. “They have a really good hitter out of the middle, but we stayed aggressive and did a good job.”

Davis had six blocks and Kaitlyn Winkler had three for the Lynx. Pruismann had 34 assists.

Ashlee Nydegger was 25-for-25 serving with an ace. Hackbarth was perfect in 15 tries with an ace. Burns was 25-for-26 and Pruismann was 14-for-16.

Webster City went 2-1 at the Madrid tournament on Saturday.

The Lynx knocked off Earlham 21-13, 21-19. They beat Ogden 21-14, 21-17. They fell to Ogden 21-14 and 21-17.

The Lynx are back in action on Thursday when they host Humboldt (19-6). The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
