Lynx volleyball squad continues busy slate

The Webster City volleyball team closed out the regular season on Saturday at the Winterset Invitational, taking a match against Greene County in three games.

The Lynx (19-13 overall) topped the Rams, 21-18, 19-21 and 15-9. They fell to No. 4 (Class 3A) Red Oak, fifth-ranked (4A) Norwalk and Van Meter.

On Thursday night, Webster City wrapped up North Central Conference action with a sweep at Clarion-Goldfield/Dows. Scores were 25-17, 25-18 and 25-19 in favor of the Lynx, who went 4-3 and tied for third in the NCC.

“The girls are flowing together and reading each other well,” WCHS head coach Jessica Howard said. “They’re communicating well and are (in rhythm) with where their (teammates) are going to be on the court most of the time.

“It was good to finish (the C-G/D) match in three (sets), even though the match wasn’t really up to the intensity levels we need this late in the year.”

Lovie Pruismann recorded 25 assists against the Cowgirls, with Tristyn Wright tallying 14 kills. Morgan Hackbarth (11), Wright (10) and Pruismann (nine) led the way in digs.

Ashley Nydegger added three ace serves, with Pruismann contributing two. Nydegger misfired on just one of her 12 serve attempts; Pruismann was 16 of 18.

Evie Davis finished with four blocks to anchor the defense at the net. Hackbarth and Briley VanDeer both dished out three assists.

Webster City will open postseason action on Tuesday, hosting Mason City in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal at 7 p.m.

Starting at $3.46/week.
