Lynx can’t stop W-SR at the nets

WAVERLY — The Webster City volleyball team saw its season come to an end here last Thursday in Class 4A regional play vs. Waverly-Shell Rock.

Scores were 25-12, 25-15 and 25-16.

For the Lynx (21-14 overall), it marked the end of the careers for several seniors, including rotation regulars Alivia Burns, Morgan Hackbarth, Janey Putney and Ashlee Nydegger.

“We struggled with inconsistency in our serve-receive,” WCHS head coach Jess Howard said. “That kept us from really getting going and allowed them to have long stretches with the same server.”

Junior Tristyn Wright had a team-high eight kills while classmate Avery Poppen added three. Wright also had four digs while Poppen was 6-for-6 serving.

Hackbarth had 12 digs, Lovie Pruismann six and both Burns and Putney five. Pruismann dished out 15 assists, Burns and Nydegger were both 7-for-7 serving, and Hackbarth had an ace.

“We lose a big group of seniors that will leave some big shoes to fill,” Howard said. “They led by example for the underclassmen who will need to step into those roles next year and stretch when they get into those positions.”

Along with Burns, Hackbarth, Putney and Nydegger, Webster City also graduates seniors Josslyn Carden, Hailey Brim, Marissa Miller and Clara Grossoehme.

Starting at $3.46/week.
